What’s exciting about it is that there’s a natural growth and evolution in our communities, as new people arrive, bringing different ideas, flavours and dishes. It’s an ongoing process and something that we embrace - so much to discover. And taste! Strathfield is a case in point. I love Korean food. You can’t go past bibimbap and Korean barbecue, certainly. But recently a Korean- Australian friend introduced me to bossam – simmered pork served with spicy sauce – a new favourite. Then there are the restaurants. Arisan is an oldie but a goodie. And Bassim does great barbecue! But there are so many other ways to enjoy Sydney’s amazing food culture and fabulous regional NSW produce. Crave Sydney International Food Festival, presented by Citibank, covers everything from presentations by the world’s leading chefs to wonderful outdoor events in some of the city’s most interesting and unique locations. Each event (Strathfield’s food festival is but one - we have close to 500 of them) is authentic to its place and focus. In the end, it’s all about celebrating and sharing great food wherever it’s found. There are dozens of events happening across the inner west – lively community and local-business based events which really show off what each area has to offer. It’s important to celebrate community and the things that are central to that. Local businesses are at the core of community - they serve our needs, provide a point of contact and, in the case of restaurants and other food businesses, they feed us and bring life to our neighbourhoods. We need to support them. But also to share our communities and what is unique about them with others - visitors from other parts of the city and beyond. Crave is a great opportunity for that to happen. And we love the way that communities respond to the chance to shine!
